Jodie Hill (00-06) is a part-time lecturer at Leeds
Beckett University Law School where she also studied
for her undergraduate degree. She then trained as
a barrister before cross qualifying as a solicitor. She
practices in Leeds and set up her own firm, Thrive
Law, earlier this year specialising in employment law,
mental health and well-being. In April 2018, Jodie
completed the 26-mile Three Peaks challenge to
raise funds for the Leeds United Foundation. See the
feature article about Jodie’s mental health first aider
campaign earlier in the magazine. Hugh Stubbins (00-11) was cast by Part of the Main
Productions to play Tom, one of the lead characters
in ‘The Squirrel Plays’ at the Wandsworth Arts
and Edinburgh Festival Fringes in May and August,
2018. Hugh, a former Pocklington School Head
Boy, studied History at Jesus College, Cambridge
before becoming an actor. Now based in London,
Hugh’s credits include: ‘Arden Creatures’ (Cockpit
Theatre), ‘Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens’ (Kings
Head Theatre), ‘The Things I Will Not Miss’ (short
film), ‘Chubby Funny’ (feature film) and the upcoming
feature film ‘Ilkley’, directed by Harry Michell. He is
represented by Esta Charkham Associates, and runs
a new writing night in Hackney, which showcases
exciting new work of all genres. ‘The Squirrel Plays’
are metaphor plays written by award-winning
playwright Mia McCullough, whose work has been
produced at prestigious theatres such as the Old
Globe in San Diego, and Steppenwolf in Chicago.
James Laudage (06-17), a Natural Sciences
student, was part of a triumphant St John’s team in
the inter-college final of the rugby Cuppers held on
28 April 2018 in Cambridge. James who played at
flanker, felt honoured to be part of the team and was
very pleased to get the win!
Sam Elcock (05-12) attended Reading University
attaining a 2:1 BA (Hons) degree in Film and
Television in 2015. Since then, he has worked co-
producing and assisting in directing a short sci-fi film
entitled ‘Cognition’ and attaining personal IMDb
accreditation. Whilst the film has been in post-
production for the last couple of years, Sam has
worked all over the world as Senior Video Producer
for Princess Cruiselines and even appeared on the
ITV documentary ‘The Cruise’ simply doing his job
last summer! He was back home in July this year
after four 6-month contracts before he headed back
to London for completion of the short film.
Fin Henderson (07-14) won the top prize of
£50,000 in a national music competition organised by
Salute Music Makers in November 2017. The contest
attracted over 2000 initial entrants from which 100
were selected to take part in the competition. The
sophisticated voting system, which was run through
Facebook, involved a series of rounds to narrow
down the top 100 to the top six and then a final
vote to decide the winner. Fin’s two songs and videos,
entitled ‘A Million Places’ and ‘Evolution’, secured him
the top prize in the closely fought competition. As
well as performing regularly in York and Leeds, Fin
recently supported soul artist Laura Mvula for her
headline concert with Harrogate International
Festivals. Mvula was famously championed by the
late superstar Prince, and recently appeared with
artist David Byrne. Her two highly regarded albums,
‘Sing To The Moon’ and ‘The Dreaming Room’
Jimmy Quinney (08-17) is studying Civil and
Structural Engineering at Sheffield University. After
a rigorous selection and interview process, Jimmy
was awarded one of 75 QUEST undergraduate
scholarships by the Institute of Civil Engineers in
December 2017. Each scholarship is worth up
to £10,000 over the course of study with paid
placements for most scholars. Jimmy’s scholarship
is with AMCO Engineering, a specialist contractor
providing innovative multi-disciplinary solutions to
the Energy, Environmental and Infrastructure market
sectors.
James Reckitt (10-12) fulfilled a childhood ambition
in September 2017 by becoming a fully qualified
Barrister. He has joined Dere Street Barristers in
York as a fully paid up tenant. He says “life is rather
hectic, but the dream I have been pursing for the
past 12 years has finally come true.”
Katie Stuart (05-15) is studying Philosophy and
Politics at Durham University. As well as enjoying her
course, she is also taking advantage of the sporting
opportunities; she is netball captain for her college
and has taken up rowing.
Sophie Stuart (05-12) graduated from UCL in July
2017 with a first in Pharmacy. She did an internship
with a healthcare communications consultancy in
the autumn of 2017 followed by a three-month
trip to Australia earlier this year to visit Ruth
Tyrell (01-12) who now lives there. Sophie’s

Rob Sullivan (02-13) graduated with a first class
honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science from
Loughborough University as reported elsewhere in
the magazine. He was also awarded the G V Sibley
Memorial Prize for highest overall mark on his
course. Since graduating, Rob has been busy working
three jobs at once! Two of them are providing timing
services for athletics events – so far he’s been to
events as far away as Uganda, Kenya and China! He
also works for a company that runs football leagues
across the country, and he is currently involved in
organising the 6-a-side football World Cup. He
recently got engaged and is getting married in June
next year. He came back to school in January to give
a talk as part of the Sixth Form Symposium series
of lectures.
Florence Taylor (04-15) competed in the
prestigious ‘Mrs Sunderland Music Festival’ in
February and came first in the Musical Theatre
class winning the ‘Huddersfield Light Opera Society
Trophy’ after singing ‘Nothing Stops Another Day’
from ‘Ghost the Musical’. She also performed in
a production called ‘The World Goes ‘Round’ at
the John Cooper Studio in York in May. The show
featured songs written by Kander & Ebb (‘Chicago’,
‘Cabaret’ etc). Florence is has just finished her
final year at the Leeds College of Music studying
Classical Voice and plans to pursue a career in the
performance industry.
