PRE - 1980
Malcolm Johnson ( 58-63 ) lives in Canada but spends his summers in the South of France , where he runs a ‘ Sip and Paint ’ event from his house in the Languedoc region . Guests can explore beautiful villages , engage in water colour , sketching , photography , walking , and enjoy the wine and speciality foods and dishes of the region . Malcolm attended the Dinosaur Club Luncheon in September 2023 with his wife , Sallie .
Brian Madderson ( 53-63 ) decided to retire in 2021 from his role as Chair of the Petrol Retailers Association and Board Member of the Retail Motor Industry Federation , but as this coincided with the fuel crisis that year , he continued working in a liaison role with the Government . Two years on and now in his 79th year , Brian is still working and providing consultancy services on Government lobbying to the Retail Motor Industry Federation . This varies from private meetings with senior Ministers in their Departmental Offices , to workshops with Government Agencies and lunches or afternoon tea with members of the Houses of Commons and Lords in the Palace of Westminster . He also has close contact with the media involving TV and radio interviews and coverage in national and local press . Brian says it is “ All highly recommended to keep the grey cells fresh and active !”
Julian Morgan ( 68-76 ), the Classics teacher , teacher trainer and puzzle writer who featured in last year ’ s magazine , recently finished a new puzzle book called ‘ Charles Dickens Puzzles ’. The collection of 100 Dickens-themed puzzles is based on the author ’ s major works and lifetime from Samuel Pickwick to Edwin Drood . Mike Taylor ( 63-70 ) retired from the international metals trading business five years ago and plans to stay in Waterloo , Belgium where he and his wife Joëlle have lived since 1987 . Their twins and triplets are scattered around the world on four continents , but they manage to catch up here or there at least once a year . Upcoming travel plans include a trip to Australia , South America and hopefully England .
1980 - 1989
David Ward ( 81-88 ) came to school in May with a group of staff and students from the Kesteven & Grantham Girls ’ School who were setting off from Pocklington by bike for their Gold DofE practice expedition . Dave , who runs a cycle and cycle repair business in Lincolnshire , was part of the support team for the expedition . It was his first time back at school since he left - he plans to return soon for a proper visit !
1990 - 1999
Tor Carver ( née Sweeting , 88-90 ), owner of William ’ s Den , the popular Yorkshire children ’ s along with her husband Christian have won the Visitor Attraction of the Year category in the prestigious Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards 2022 . The attraction was also short-listed in the Remarkable Ethical , Responsible and Sustainability category .
Oliver Moore ( 88-99 ), Director of Travel Agency Sales ( EMEA ) at Enterprise Holdings , was announced as the winner of the Institute of Travel Management Chair ’ s Award at a gala dinner at the Institute ’ s Energise Conference in April . The ITM Chair ’ s award is presented to an individual who demonstrates ITM ’ s core values of supporting and developing all those involved in corporate travel .
Jonny Sumner ( 83-94 ) was named the Coach of the Year 2022 at the Yorkshire Cricket Board awards evening held in November last year . Jonny has led the development of junior players at Pocklington Cricket Club across all groups for several years .
2000 - 2009
Edward Hetherton ( 00-05 ) recently moved to Ashdown Forest , East Sussex , to renovate a house with wife Hannah and two daughters . Following several years as a professional musician with the band Elliot Minor ( five top 40 singles , top 10 album ) alongside his brother Dan , Edward earned a scholarship to Imperial College London for a master ’ s degree having graduated from University College London and now works in Exploration and New Ventures for ExxonMobil
Daniel Hetherton ( 01-05 ) got married this year to Ceri and lives in London . After his time with Elliot Minor as a professional musician , Daniel set up his own digital marketing business , Anaconda Media , promoting events at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall , O2 Arena and Glastonbury Festival , as well as clients including numerous notable artists , music venues and involvement in worldwide tours .
Oliver Hetherton ( 03-08 ) graduated from Newcastle University and went into recruitment in London . Two years ago , he took a sabbatical and went travelling to South and Central America returning to join Mackie Myers Recruitment as a partner .
Ed Gough-Olaya ( né Smith , 90-01 ) swapped hockey for running after tearing his rotator cuff a year ago . He recently took part in his first race , the Batangsi Trail , a 30km trail race near Selangor , Malaysia , finishing as tenth male with a time of 3:56:55 . He really enjoyed it and has already signed up for another event !
Josh Overington ( 01-04 ), former owner of Le Couchon Aveugle in York , has announced the opening of his new restaurant with rooms , Mýse , in the beautiful Yorkshire village of Hovingham . At the heart of the project is a 19th century inn , which Josh is currently building and transforming ready for the anticipated opening in mid-June 2023 . 2010 - PRESENT
Daisy Barnes ( 09-16 ) has just started a new role with the Out of Home Marketing team at Finlays , a leading independent B2B supplier of tea , coffee , and botanicals . Prior to joining the company , Daisy was Marketing and Communications Manager for fava bean snack producer , The Honest Bean Co . She graduated from Newcastle University in 2020 with a degree in Agri-Business . Good luck Daisy !
Cameron Brown ( 14-18 ) was appointed as the Director of Education for the University of St Andrews Students ’ Association in March 2023 . He is responsible for leading a team of individuals , including the Faculty Presidents and the postgraduate Academic Convenor , to provide exceptional educational opportunities for all students at St Andrews .
Thomas Bulmer ( 11-18 ) completed his BEng in Mechanical Engineering with Electronics degree apprenticeship with Rolls-Royce in March this year . Rather than accepting an offer of a full-time position with the engineering firm , Thomas became a partner in the family farm , taking care of 3500 outdoor pigs . Despite the challenges of working and studying simultaneously , he would recommend the degree apprenticeship for valuable industry experience and qualifications received without student debt .
George Hetherton ( 05-12 ) lived and worked in London before returning to do a degree in music at York St John ’ s University . He was awarded a firstclass degree and won a scholarship for a part time master ’ s which he is currently undertaking as well as running his business Homeward Sound , providing acoustic solutions .
Harry Hetherton ( 05-12 ) graduated from University College London with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering and now lives in London working in Sales and Software development in the Hospitality Industry .
Freddie Hetherton ( 10-15 ) graduated from Edinburgh University with a Distinction in his Masters in Cyber Security and now lives and works in London where he ’ s completing Officer Training in the Royal Naval Reserve .
