PIXIES CC FIXTURES ROUND UP 2023
POCKLINGTON SCHOOL The Pixies got their season underway against Pocklington School , donning red caps in support of the Red for Ruth Foundation . Winning the toss , captain Jack Bolam ( 96-05 ) elected to bat first , sending out Harry Jackson ( 15-22 ) ( 24 ) and Tom Taylor ( 1 ) to open . After some tight bowling from Harvey Laverack and Henry Rodmell , aided by a fantastic catch by Oliver Rook , the Pixies found themselves in a spot of bother at 44-3 . Charlie Lambert ( 01-08 ) made 32 before being dismissed on the brink of lunch . Skipper Bolam ( 46 ) and Matthew Atkinson ( 85-93 ) ( 37 *) then put on a stand of 87 , before declaring on 200 . Harvey Laverack ( 13-0-28-2 ) was the pick of the bowlers for the School .
Will Atkinson and Tom Burdett opened the bowling , restricting the School to just nine runs from the first eight overs . Tom Burdett then made the breakthrough , dismissing school skipper Toby Williamson . At tea , the game was evenly poised , with the School needing 150 runs with nine wickets in hand . Harvey Laverack ( 33 ) and Oliver Rook ( 25 ) built a good foundation for the School to kick on from , however some tight spin bowling from George Baty ( 12-2-17-3 ) and Steve Burdett ( 11-4-10-3 ) put the Pixies in the driving seat . Despite late order resistance from Harry Snelling ( 16 ) and George Moorhouse ( 31 ), the Pixies picked up the final wicket with minutes to spare , bowling the school out for 159 to retain the Malcolm Milne trophy .
YORKSHIRE GENTS The trip to Escrick Park saw the Pixies take on the Yorkshire Gents in a timed cricket game . Henry Kay ( 13-21 ) bowled a strong opening spell taking 2-22 , and Jonty Goddard ( 11-19 ) cleaned up the tail taking 3-14 and putting the Pixies in a commanding position . The Pixies set about on their chase of 147 , with Freddie Taylor ( 21-23 ) making 43 , before an explosive Nathan Saltmer finished the game off with a quickfire 47 not out .
WORSLEY CUP The short trip to Pocklington CC saw the sides battle out for the long-standing Worsley Cup . The Pixies batted first , and sailed towards victory , scoring 247 runs . The Rook brothers did the damage , with Oliver making 79 and young Tom scoring 59 . The Pixies chipped away at Pocklington throughout , regularly picking up wickets . Despite some resistance from Joel Taylor ( 48 ) and some late runs from Archie Sumner ( 29 *) and Harry Collins ( 31 *), the visitors retained the Worsley Cup .
MEN OF DERWENT The Pixies took to Woodhouse Grange to play their penultimate game of the year , eager to make amends on last year ’ s defeat , and retrieve the Alisdair Swann Trophy . An early stand between Chris Bilton and James Hattee put the Men of Derwent in the driving seat , but wickets split evenly amongst Will Atkinson , Oliver Rook and Steve Burdett , alongside 3 wickets for opener Henry Kay ( 13-21 ) saw the hosts restricted to 125 . After four of the top five failed to reach double figures , the chase looked in danger . However , an important 26 from Toby Williamson ( 10-23 ) provided the perfect platform for Steve Burdett to see the game home , scoring 14 not out as the Pixies won by 1 wicket .
40 CLUB The visit of the Forty Club saw the Pixies final game of the season . The visitors chose to bat first , and posted a competitive 212-7 from their 40 overs , with Tashmial Henry ’ s explosive 70 ( featuring 6 sixes ) the pick of the batting . Adam Iyer ( 96-06 ) continued his fine form , picking up another couple of wickets . In response , the Pixies stuttered , and when Jack Bolam ( 96-05 ) fell for 64 , hope of victory faded . The Pixies ended up all out for 167 , ending the season with six victories .

PIXIES ANNUAL TOUR 2023
On Sunday 6 August , the Pixies ventured down South on the 67th annual tour of Kent and Sussex . The opening day saw a battle between Holmesdale and the Pixies for the inaugural Malcolm Milne and John Hughes Trophy , a pair of cricketing icons from both sides . The Pixies lost the toss and were put in to bat , and at 61-5 looked in danger . Thanks to a well-made 74 from Olly Bone , a resilient Jonty Goddard ( 11-19 ) ( 22 ), and some quick runs from Adam Iyer ( 96-06 ) ( 34 ), the visitors declared on a respectable 218 . Early inroads from Will Atkinson ( 2-42 ) made the declaration look like a good one , however after a partnership of 106 for the third wicket , the Pixies once again looked in a spot of bother . Captain Goddard turned to Adam Iyer , who needed two wickets to bring up his 100th Pixi wicket . Iyer picked up the dangerous Ben Pollard ( 88 ), starting a rout . He then picked up two more wickets in his next over , followed by a hat-trick to win the game , finishing with figures of 6-21 .
Pixies at Eastbourne
The trip to Eastbourne saw the Pixies post a below par 159 all out , however schoolboys Freddie Taylor ( 21-23 ) ( 49 ), Josh Tanikal ( 13 ) and Oliver Rook ( 30 ) all contributed with the bat . The Pixies bowled well , with George Baty ’ s 3-20 being the standout figures , but Eastbourne managed to knock the runs off with two balls to spare in a very tight encounter .
