PIXIES REPORT 2015
The 60th year and another when 31 players and officials from the school 1st Xl , members of staff , ex pupils and cricketing friends got together to play some enjoyable cricket . Henry Mitchell ( 91-02 ) typifies this spirit and he took over from Andy Billington ( 77-84 ) as captain of the side to play the Yorkshire Gentlemen in the first match of the season . Fittingly he started with a win even though the YGs were 100 for 1 at one stage but they then stuttered to 165 all out . Guy Brumfield ( 01-08 ) bowled a meagre spell and took 2 for 21 , Richard Readman ( 97-05 ) claimed 2 for 19 , Iain Moorhouse ( 06-12 ) in a long spell finished with 1 for 64 and then Matt Durkin on debut wrapped up the tail with 3 for 9 off 6 overs . In reply Paul van Dijk ( 92-03 ) scored an elegant 59 , Joe Moore ( 82-91 ) playing his 80th game for the Pixies made 46 and Matt Durkin , 31 , as the target was reached with 6 wickets down .
Once again the Pixies were made favourites to win the 28th staging of the Worsley Cup against Pocklington CC in July 2015 , but two memorable catches turned the game in favour of the hosts . Despite some rallying hits from James Hanley ( 8- 15 ) ( 21 ), Jonty Atkinson ( 25 ), Joey Moore ( 31 ) and AJ Clarke ( 01-09 ) ( 31 ), the Pixies were left 6 runs short of the target ending their six-year winning run in the competition .
The Bear Inn at Burwash was the new base for the tour and it proved to be a great success . Thanks go to Charlie Lambert ( 01-08 ) for all his efforts with the arrangements of this venue and hopefully it will attract more players to join future tours . See the tour report opposite .
In the last game it was the Men of Derwent ’ s turn to claim the Alasdair Swann Trophy when thanks mainly to Stuart Craven ( 73 n . o .) they set a challenging total of 204 with all the bowlers claiming a wicket a piece . This did prove too much as the Pixies succumbed to 175 all out with only Adam Sutcliffe ( 74 ) on debut making a telling contribution .
As ever thanks go to all the players and officials who make it all possible and to the school and the OP Association for all their help .

Finally , sadly we have to record the loss of two early tourists , Fred Mason and Peter Milne , who are both probably better remembered as being stalwarts of their local club , Woodhouse Grange and Londesborough Park respectively . They set us a fine example for us all to try and follow . ( Report by Malcolm Milne ) pocklington pixies teamwear order online

PIXIES 51ST TOUR TO KENT AND SUSSEX AUGUST 2015
The year 2015 marked the Diamond Cricket Tour ( 51 visits to Kent and Sussex preceded by 9 to North Wales ) for the Pocklington Pixies . Probably the jewel of the week was their new base at The Bear Inn in Burwash which certainly lived up to the recommendations of The Yapping Bishops CC . It was also apt being in Kipling country with the VJ celebrations and the area was reminiscent of Mandalay when “ the dawn came up like thunder ” and deposited 70 mm of rain in the area on Thursday morning causing widespread flooding ( which was shown on the national news ). This put paid to the ‘ signature ’ game of the week at Hastings and also to Friday ’ s game at Ashford .
Preceding the storm were four enjoyably competitive games . On Sunday at Holmesdale the Pixies batted first and a century 2nd wicket partnership between Joe Moore ( 64 ) and Matt Durkin ( 45 ) was followed by good contributions from Jack Bolam ( 96-05 ) ( 36 ), Rob Milne ( 88-95 ) ( 33 ) and a breezy 25 not out from Guy Brumfield enabling them to declare at 252 for 9 . In reply the hosts reached their target with 2 balls to spare after Brumfield with 3 wickets , Durkin with 2 and Iain Moorhouse 1 had made run scoring difficult but dropped catches proved costly . On the following day at Eastbourne Ben Burdett scored 45 and followed this up with a fine fielding display ( as he did throughout the week ). Scott Shepherd ( 66 ) and Tom Loten ( 37 ) all on debut , along with 32 from Jack Bolam helped the Pixies to a creditable 255 for 8 off the allotted 40 overs . Sussex Under 15 representative Alistair Orr and Sussex Ladies county player Georgia Tibbs ( names to look out for ) kept the hosts in touch , but Iain Moorhouse ( 6 for 40 ) and Matt Durkin ( 2 for 38 ) along with Henry Mitchell ’ s first Pixie wicket dismissed them for 233 .

Again dropped catches , this time a Pixie record of 13 (!!), caused problems at Haywards Heath who were able to declare on 304 for 6 with Moorhouse ( 3 for 72 ) and Bolam ( 2 for 49 ) both the chief wicket takers and sufferers . In reply most batsmen featured with Charlie Lambert ( 82 ) and Rob Milne ( 40 ) being the top scorers aided by Matt Atkinson ( 85-93 ) ( 28 ), Jack Bolam ( 23 ) and Matt Durkin ( 22 ) but the team had to settle for a draw on 265 for 8 . The Pixies had not lost to Marden since 1992 but looked in danger at 40 for 6 . However , skipper Marcus Townend ( 72-82 ) held out for an hour enabling Jack Bolam ( 85 ) and Charlie Lambert ( 34 ) to edge the score pocklington

along to a respectable 189 . John Burrans ( 89-94 ) playing his only match in the week then took 4 for 51 and support came from Scott Shepherd ( 3 for 19 ) and Charlie Lambert ( 2 for 42 ) before Tom Loten flattened their last man ’ s off stump for his first Pixie wicket to dismiss them for 151 . Andy Inns ( 83-90 ) and Miles Picknett ( 77-84 ) then made the 500- mile round trip for the last two matches , alas to no avail , but in spite of the late washout 17 players and three officials enjoyed the week . PIXIES REPORT 2016
There can be few better places to start the season than Escrick Park and the Founder would have approved of the team that were victorious against the Yorkshire Gentlemen . Five schoolboys were able to benefit from the experience and ability of the other senior players who in total had played over 400 games for the Pixies . It was however two of the school Xl who made major contributions with the bat . Tom Loten scored his maiden century ( the second youngest since Adam Iyer ( 96-06 ) and Jonty Atkinson scored 57 , when the declaration came at 261 for 5 . In reply the YGs made a good fist of the chase but Jack Bolam ’ s five wickets tipped the balance in the Pixies favour and they were all out for 224 . Lewis Medley and Rory Stephenson both on debut chipped in with useful wickets .
The 29th Worsley Cup game resulted in defeat for the Pixies for the second year running in spite of amassing 258 for 6 off the allotted 40 overs . Matt Durkin made 70 before being bowled by future tourist George Baty and then Rory Stephenson ( 64 n . o .) and Jack Bolam ( 81 ) shared a stand of 120 to put the Pixies in a strong position . Credit to the Pocklington CC batsmen a little complacency in the field meant that the hosts actually reached their target with two overs to spare . Frankie Beal ( 11-13 ) with 4 for 30 and Toby Stephenson on debut , looked to have put the side in a winning position at 156 for 6 but the tail wagged to gain a surprising victory .
