privately owned food and drink businesses in the
UK. Between them, Marie and her sister Zoe, have
helped to market the Bannister’s Farm brand which
has been in operation for 30 years and continues to
grow as a family business.
Rosie Bristow (01-08) has been working as a
professional musician since graduating from Warwick
in 2011. She recently started recording a second
album with her band Holy Moly and the Crackers.
The band are raising funds for the album through
Kickstarter, the world’s largest funding platform for
creative projects. The band has also signed with a
professional agent and they have performed at
several high profile festivals including Glastonbury!
Giles Mole (87-97) was the editor of last season’s
Six Nations: The Definitive Guide magazine published
by EMP Publishing Ltd. He has also written about
rugby for the Telegraph newspaper.
Rachel Nightingale (née Marsland, 94-95) is
living in Western Australia in a little country town
called Wyalkatchem with her husband and two
children. She works in local government as well as
working on their own farm in the area.
Ken Peckitt (86-93) studied medicine in
Manchester after his time at Pocklington. He is
now a Consultant Anaesthetist in Stockport. He is
married with two boys aged 6 and 3.
Ed Sumner (82-92) has brought his painting
masterclasses to Pocklington Arts Centre. The Pock
Paint Off events take place monthly and follow the
same format as his well-established Cheese and Wine
Paint Off evenings near his home in London offering
people of all abilities a fun evening of art, with a
step by step guide to painting a version of a famous
masterpiece.
Romney Walton (90-92) attended Pocklington
for the sixth form before going to Trinity University,
Leeds where she gained a joint degree in English
and Education. She then went to live and work
abroad, returning to the UK in 2015 after 18 years
working in the Middle East. She is currently teaching
at Pocklington Prep School. She has two daughters
who both attend Pocklington.
Andrew Wardle (76-84) has resided in the USA
for the last 16 years, working for Community
Newspaper Holdings Inc (CNHI). He is the Regional
Executive for local newspaper logistical operations in
several different States.
James Wilson (83-90) (above), studied civil
engineering at Leeds University. After graduating
he taught English for five years in Hungary, Turkey,
Argentina and Finland. He returned to Yorkshire in
1999, and has worked as a civil engineer, structural
engineer and geotechnical engineer since then.
James is currently senior geotechnical engineer
at Leeds City Council. He enjoys art and creative
writing in his spare time and has completed his
first novel, set in York, which he has illustrated with
drawings and prints. Earlier this year, Pete Edwards
(80-13) former Head of Art returned art work to
James which had been hung on the wall in the art
department at Pocklington School, for the last 26
years!
Simon Wilson (83-90) is a senior solicitor at
Hudgell Solicitors in Hull.
2000 - PRESENT
Grace Andrews (08-10) graduated with a BA
Honours in Acting from the Guildhall School of
Music and Drama in 2013. She is currently on a
world tour with international theatre company
Cheek By Jowl, playing the parts of ‘Emilia’ and ‘Time’
in A Winter’s Tale. (See feature on page 38).
Alastair Bax (03-10) successfully completed his
degree in Medicine from Newcastle Medical School
in June 2016 and has taken up a post as a junior
doctor in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Sam Berridge (05-12) is studying German and
French at Birmingham, Izzy Carlile (02-13) is
studying French at Chester, Ed Chappelow (0212) is studying French and Maths at Birmingham
and Nathan Waddell (05-12) is studying Spanish
at Aston. They all gave up their time to come
in to school in February 2016 and talk to 5th
year languages students about studying Modern
Languages at A level and at university.

Novoneel Brown (07-10) and Tom Cowan (0708) came to visit their old boarding house, FenwickSmith House, in May. Neel is working for Knauf
Insulation Ltd in Commercial Sales Support and is
looking to progress his career with the firm. Tom
works for Audi as a Service Advisor.
Jack Bolam (96-05), Charlie Lambert (01-08)
and Paul Van Dijk (92-03) were presented with
cricket awards at the 58th York and District Senior
League held at The Voltigeur Suite, York Racecourse.
Jack Bolam as Captain of Dunnington CC for winning
the York Premier KO Trophy. Charles Lambert as
Captain of Pocklington CC for winning the York and
Ainsty Builders Trophy as Champions of Division 2
South and Paul van Dijk who won the Lol Morse
Memorial Trophy as the best representative player.

James Cantrell (99-05) is a Captain in the Army
serving with the Rifles. He commissioned from
Sandhurst in April 2013. He has completed the
Platoon Commanders Course at Brecon and the
Armoured Infantry Platoon Commanders Course
at Lulworth and Bovington. He has served in
Uzbekistan, France, Germany and Canada.
Alix Coole Varlow (04-12) spent two years at
York College after her time at Pocklington. She
did an extended diploma in health and social care
and is in her 3rd year at the University of Central
Lancashire.
Liam Corbally (08-12) has taken up a graduate
position as a support officer within the Cabinet
Office, working for the economic and domestic
affairs secretariat.
Fraser Deas (02-09) met up with External
Relations Director, Sheena McNamee, during her
visit to China in November 2015. Fraser, who is
based in Beijing, works at the British Council (known
in China as the Cultural and Education Section of
the British Embassy) as an Education Marketing
Officer for the Education team. The team runs a
variety of projects across China looking to highlight
the UK as a great study abroad destination and raise
awareness of the benefits that a UK education can
bring. Fraser also helps out on various other projects,
