SUMMARY OF SEASON
OFFICERS & DIRECTORS
ndiana, like much of the maple belt, suffered through a severe winter of cold temperatures, high winds, and a lot of snow. Most producers were 2 - 4 weeks late in tapping and the season extended
from 1 - 3 weeks longer. Sugar content for most of the Hoosier state
was between 2.5% to 3.0 %. Very little light syrup was made this season with most producers making a great deal of very good tasting
medium amber syrup. Most sugar makers reported an average or
better yield with a few having exceptionally good years for such a
short season. One producer reported that he maintained high vacuum due to the
installation of squirrel guard that prevented vacuum leaks due to animal bites.
