Before Convention:

A more complete timeline can be found in Article V, Section 3 of the NJCL Constitution. The most important date to remember is June 15th - ALL aspiring candidates must submit their Nomination Form to [ parliamentarian@njcl.org ] and [ constitution@njcl.org ] prior to that day to be in the running. The form, along with Form P for presidential candidates, can be found on the NJCL Website under "About Us" > "Candidates for NJCL Office". This form needs signatures from your parents, your local JCL sponsor, and your state JCL chair. Be sure to discuss your intention to run well with them well before convention!

Nominations Committee Meeting:

The Nominations Committee Meeting is where candidates must give a maximum two minute speech on their platform, experience, reasons for running, etc. Based on candidates’ speeches, voting delegates will choose two candidates to run for each office and place on the final ballot. Your local sponsor or sponsor’s representative must be present at this event. Campaigning only begins after the conclusion of this event.

Meet the Candidates:

Meet the Candidates is a very informal question and answer event with stations for each candidate around the room so that JCLers are free to meander and ask questions. Be prepared for a wide variety of questions, and have fun! You can bring signs if you have them. N.B. Bring extra water to this event as you will be talking a lot and your throat might get dry.

General Assembly III:

The majority of this general assembly is devoted to candidate speeches. You will have the chance to share your platform to everyone at the convention. Make sure your speech comes within three minutes. Remember to breathe and relax. You have got this! Note: there will be no introductory speakers; only candidates can give a speech here.

Candidates' Open Forum:

The Candidates' Open Forum is an event where all of the candidates are asked questions which are submitted by delegates and the current officers. Candidates are asked their questions on a stage in front of a small crowd. Immediately after Candidate's Open Forum, all delegates will return to a mandatory voting fellowship.

General Assemblies IV & V:

This year, results of the election will be announced to candidates privately and posted publicly before General Assembly IV. The results will be announced once more at General Assembly IV, where elected candidates (in formal attire) will take the stage. The new board will be sworn in at General Assembly V (in Roman attire). Here, the newly elected president will give an inauguration speech and present the theme for next year's convention. Be prepared for pictures at both events.
