End of an era?
Will we ever see the old Manny again?
Is this the end of Manny Pacquiao? Many fans don't believe he can come back from the brutal knockout he suffered at the hands of long time nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez.
Tommy Allan believes the Pacman can make a triumphant return in 2013. He explains why.
When Manny Pacquiao slumped unconscious onto the canvas in the sixth round of his fourth fight with Mexican Icon Juan Manuel Marquez, many fans had the very same questions when they awoke on sunday morning. "Will Manny ever be the same again? "Is his chin cracked?" Fair questions, he had just been brutally knocked out by a fighter who had barely made a dent in him in three previous fights.
Although it is not uncommon for a fighter who gets knocked out in that fashion to become "chinny," it does not always become the case.
We've seen a lot of fighters put away early in their careers and they have come back to show tremendous durability later in their careers; in their biggest fights.
Randall 'Tex' Cobb would be a perfect example. Obviously, Pacquiao's knockout against Marquez came late in his career,
but he was also stopped twice, years before he made the big time. Pacquiao has been a fighter who has shown tremendous durability throughout his career. He has taken shots from punchers like Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, Miguel Cotto, and also much bigger men like Antonio Margarito, Oscar De La Hoya and Joshua Clottey.
