5- Adrien Broner vs. Yuriorkis Gamboa
Who is faster? I honestly don’t know, but I’d like to find out. Since severing his ties with Top Rank and moving to the recently renamed SMS Promotions, 50 Cent’s banner, Gamboa is basically a hired gun for whatever card he fits on. Sadly, his last appearance was on a Top Rank card, giving Bob Arum the last laugh. These two have casually mentioned each other in the media, but nothing you can hang your hat on has happened yet. With Gamboa’s willingness to fight Rios at 135 (until…well, ya know) and the lack of quality opponents at 135 for Broner (here’s hoping a Burns fight happens as well), this could be an entertaining scrap that shows a lot about both fighters. Will Gamboa’s speed and power carry up? Can Broner maintain when he is presented with a fighter who has skills on a level that compete with his own? Here’s hoping we find out.
6- Matthew Macklin vs. Darren Barker
Call me crazy, but something about this fight sounds interesting to me, and I have a feeling it would be a FIGHT. Macklin and Barker both had success against Sergio Martinez before being stopped in the later rounds and have looked impressive since their respective defeats.
UK seems to be producing more quality middleweights middleweights than any other
country at this moment, so a fight between these two to determine who rules the roost could be much more than a domestic scrap. Lucrative options could await the winner, and if Martin Murray has any level of success in a planned fight against Sergio Martinez in April, the UK middleweight scene could have an excellent round-robin tournament brewing. Throw a rebuilding Andy Lee into the mix, and you have all the necessary components for an intriguing four-way middleweight rivalry.
Canelo eyeing Mayweather
Will we finally see it in 2013?
