work, the future looks extremely bright. Under the Eddie Hearn stable at Matchroom, inactivity certainly will not be a problem. For Hearn, keeping his fighters active has always been a priority, which is a joy to see. A fight for the English title has been mentioned for Ryder and is possibly on the horizon in the spring. A prospective summer clash against Billy Joe Saunders for the British & Commonwealth Middleweight titles is a high quality matchup and is sure to be a great tonic for fans.
By no means is it being suggested that John Ryder is anywhere near the finished article. That would be ludicrous to imply. Any fighter has room for positive tweaks and adjustments to further enhance their talent and Ryder is no different. His trainer, Tony Sims, will no doubt have aspects he wants to work on with his pupil. What is clear is that at such an early stage in his career, after 13 undefeated fights to date, John Ryder, with his southpaw technique, can challenge for honours in the not too distant future.

Nobody knows what will happen in boxing, such is the well-loved unpredictability of this sport, but Ryder’s talent is undeniable. The over used cliché of ‘next big thing’ is never-ending, as is the term ‘hype job’. As in any sport worldwide, attitude and mental toughness is a key component in whether any competitor can reach the pinnacle in their field and fulfil any often undoubted potential.
John Ryder?
There should not be any uncertainty in anyone’s mind as to the 24 year olds exciting potential. His performances have spoken high volumes. Is there work required? Absolutely. Has he the required star potential to rise to the top? Put it this way, boxing fans should get used to hearing his name.
