As the grandson of Boston Police Officer Jeremiah J. Hurley Jr., I carry a name tied to both pride and pain. On October 28, 1991, my grandfather was killed in the line of duty while investigating a package that turned out to be a bomb.
A decorated veteran of the Bomb Squad with over two decades of service, he gave his life doing what so many officers do every day, stepping into danger to protect others. Growing up in the shadow of that sacrifice, I’ ve come to understand both the nobility and the complexity of modern policing.
