The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine | February 2020 NJSACOP Command & Leadership Academy Graduation On Thursday, January 30, 2020, 62 law enforcement and public safety executives graduated from the NJSACOP Command & Leadership Academy. The graduates were called one by one to receive their diplomas in front of family, friends, and co-workers. Following the presentation of the diplomas, the “Chief Harry Wilde Academic Achievement Award” for the highest achieving student from each Section were announced. The program commenced with opening keynote remarks from Colonel Patrick Callahan, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. This year’s graduates included command personnel from municipal police agencies throughout New Jersey, as well as from agencies in the states of Delaware and Pennsylvania. The course also included graduates from New Jersey State Police, Rutgers University Police, the United States Marshal’s Service, the Delaware River Port Authority Police and the Delaware River & Bay Authority Police, the Delaware Capitol Police, multiple New Jersey County Prosecutors and Sheriffs Offices, and the Cecil County [MD] Sheriff’s Office. The NJSACOP Command & Leadership Academy is designed for command and supervisory level law enforcement and other public safety professionals. Participants are selected by the NJSACOP Command and Leadership Committee and the program faculty. Characteristics of a successful applicant include a commitment to the law enforcement profession, a desire to lead people effectively, and motivation to continue developing skills in interpersonal communication and decision management.
