Certifications
The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine | September 2021
Your email inbox has been ( or soon will be ) filled with promotional announcements about several new academic Certificate programs that the NJSACOP is offering in partnership with New Jersey-based academic institutions . Each of these certificate programs has a specific focus , while the common thread that runs through each is the continuing professional development of our state ’ s law enforcement executives .
Most of these new Certificate programs are built around NJSACOP courses , combined with a specifically created capstone course . The one that does not have as its core NJSACOP courses is the Certificate in Evidence-Based Policing , offered under a special arrangement between the NJSACOP and the Cambridge Centre for Evidence- Based Policing ( CCEBP ). The CCEBP is a team of police educators , leaders and scientists who are associated with the University of Cambridge , who since 1998 have led the global professional movement for evidence-based policing . The Centre Director , Professor Lawrence W . Sherman , is widely credited as the founder of evidencebased policing , which he first proposed in his 1998 Police Foundation lecture in Washington DC .
Each of the Certificate programs provides an academic / professional credential , as well as an appropriate ( and impressive ) recognition of the commitment to professional education and development of our state ’ s police professionals . While several of the Certificate programs have already been introduced , more are on the way .
You can find out more about these Certificate programs on the NJSACOP website ( under the Professional Development Division tab ), elsewhere in this edition of the NJ Police Chief Magazine – and , of course , in your email Inbox .
