FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT
CHIEF LOUIS BORDI VOORHEES PD
The New Jersey Police Chief Magazine | February 2021
We continue to live and work in a world shaped by the Covid pandemic , as well as the response to the virus . With the widespread rollout of the vaccines and the numbers trending in a positive direction , we can see the light at the end of the tunnel . Still , our operating environment has still largely remained unchanged .
However , we all know that recent directives and legislation has in some respects radically changed the way our agencies and personnel must operate . Our Association has addressed these changes and made our point of view and our concerns quite clear .
That is for another time and place . My focus here , for this month ’ s President ’ s Message , is to highlight the work of our Association in facilitating direct briefings and Question & Answer Sessions on these critical topics with key personnel at the Office of the Attorney General and Division of Criminal Justice . The ability for our members to get information and interpretation is important , as is our ability to put questions directly to these key players first-hand . To me , what is more important is the ability that these sessions give our members to articulate their concerns – real world , on the ground concerns – directly , without filter , to these key policy makers and officials . They need to hear from us , and to their credit they are making themselves available face to face (“ virtually ” at any rate ) to hear those concerns . I think it can and has made a difference , and I encourage all of our members to sign on to these sessions , as well as to our online monthly State Chiefs Briefings .
At some point , hopefully in the not-too-distant future we will be holding State Meetings in person , but I expect that these video Q & A Sessions will continue to offer a forum for our members , who are our state ’ s actual subject matter experts when it comes to policing and police leadership in New Jersey , to receive important information , and have our questions and concerns heard .
