Dear Reader,
I highly recommend the book I AM MALALA, THE GIRL WHO STOOD UP FOR EDUCATION AND WAS SHOT BY THE TALIBAN. Malala Yousafzai and Patricia McCormick wrote this touching and inspiring memoir. If you don’t already know, Malala Yousafzai is the girl who stood up to the Taliban because she wanted to learn. The Taliban shot her in the head but she recovered and continued her campaign. Because of her bravery and her amazing efforts, she won the Nobel Peace prize (along with many other prizes as well.)

The book contains five parts, each one explaining Malala’s thoughts and feelings. The book starts with a description of the day she was shot. She then writes about how she hates Bella from Twilight, and how she always fights with her two younger brothers. (Actually, they start the fight and she just goes along...) The second line of the first chapter states, “I am double-jointed and I can crack the knuckles on my fingers and my toes at will (And I enjoy watching people squirm as I do it.)” This introduction shows that after all, she is still a child. As you continue to read, you feel as if you are walking in her shoes. You cry with her, you feel her pain, and you feel her joy. Even during the toughest times in her life, she showed no fear. She knew what she was doing was right and she was not ashamed of it.
I love the way she wrote this book. I expected the book to be written formally and to be mainly about her awards, or to be very ‘preachy’. Instead it was memoir style. The way she wrote made me feel as if she was my friend. It was written casually,
