As WWII began, Korczak tried to maintain the living conditions of the children as they were pre-war. Fast forward to the day Janusz and the children were headed towards the trains to the death camp. As Janusz Korczak and the children were boarding the train, one of the soldiers recognized him and said that he would spare his life. Korczak then asked if the children's lives will be spared, and the soldier said no. Korczak believed that the children's lives were as important as his. This ties into his belief that everyone is equal. Sadly, the Nazis didn't see that way and Janusz Korczak's life was ended around the year of 1942.
