Atahan İnanç CLIMBING THE STAIRS TO YOUR NEW LIFE Adapt to RC! Where am I? Where should I go? What should I do? If you are lost in these questions, you are in the right course. On the first day, when you arrive to Robert College, you will stare at the famous Gould Hall and you’ll remember the trip you took with your friends last year. You’ll walk up the stairs proudly, knowing that you are one of the few students who could make it to those stairs. On your first day at RC, you will be both nervous and excited. Don’t worry, just stick with your friends and follow the crowd. Older students will be waiting for lost preps seeking help and they will make sure that you are sent to the furthest corner of the campus. So, first rule: never ever ask for help from the older students. You can be sure that you'll regret it. Your home group teachers will take you to your classes and introduce their selves. They will try to get you used to your classmates by some activities. Second rule: don't be shy, take part. First thing you need around the campus is a friend. After the opening ceremony and the long speeches, you will go back to your classrooms. You'll do some more activities and then have lunch. During the brakes, don't just stick with your old friends; try hanging out with new people. It'll be more fun and you will have dozens of new friends at the end of the day. The campus can be really confusing, especially on the first days. Third rule: stick with your class while going somewhere. This way, you can avoid getting lost in the campus and if you do get lost, don't forget the first rule; don't ask the older students. In the first week, you'll do more activities to get to know Robert College such as orientation but don't think that all of the week would be full of activities and that you wouldn't have any lessons. Lessons will start from the first day. Teachers will sometimes talk to you about school's rules. These rules will give you an idea about what type of a place Robert College really is. Fourth rule: obey all the rules you learn but don't be afraid of them. At first, they will sound extreme but you will get used to them. Older students (especially 9th graders who were preps few days ago) will try to annoy you by saying “Smells like prep” or by locking your lockers. Fifth rule: Ignore silly 9th graders. Don't even bother answering them. They will notice how stupid they are and stop it by oneself. I hope you will be as proud as you were in the first day while you climb those stairs for the last time. Good luck in your new life with your new friends and your new school. Always remember the five rules. Gould Hall under snow Taken by writer 13
