THE WORST NIGHTMARE:
DETENTION
Horrors Unfathomable
Think that you are walking by the corridor and all of a sudden, BAM! You got a detention. In our school sometimes
people even don’t know why they got the detention. If you get one you may never find out why but how to pass a whole
year without getting a detention if you aren’t sure of the cause? The Prep Times is here to help.
This punishment system is extremely popular in our school. You can get detention from lots of things like; our
dress code, skipping home group, playing games on your computer during the class, skipping clubs, fighting with other
students. In LP9 thirty five percent of the students get detention from different reasons. (survey monkey) For example Kaan
Baykara said that he didn’t even know that he got a detention, he learned from his friend and didn’t ask anyone why he got.
Can Gizer and Deniz Akıncı explains why they got detention with these words:
“We got detention because our teacher saw us playing with our phone during the class,” says Can Gizer, a student.
Berk Türer’s situation is more interesting he says that he got two detentions because he wrote on the desk.
Despite LP9’s %53 of students don’t think detention as a good idea the school system
still uses it. So it is our job to teach next years preps how to avoid detention. First of all you
really need to learn the school rules and you need to be kind to your teachers avoid arguments.
As a proper student who didn’t get any detention Yağmur Öztürk gave away her secret with
these words; “I walked in the corridors wearing Harry Potter’s invisible cloak.” She tells that
unless you have an invisible cloak or it is all but certain to have a detention.

The students who have been interviewed mostly got their detention from our Dean Of
Student Affairs Mrs. Halıcıoğlu. She says that she usually gives detention to who broke “THE DRESS CODE”. If you’re a
prep student and don’t know English well you may think that she is just talking to you about something and you just nod.
But if you are in the cafeteria queue and you don’t understand what Mrs. Halıcıoğlu says you should better check your
clothes and then the detention list in the Gould Hall.
When Mrs. Halıcıoğlu had been interviewed she gave tips to next years students about how to pass a year without
getting detention. She said:
“You have to be a responsible student, do your homework, dress properly, get the school on time, behave properly
in class.”
After all if you got a detention you don’t need to worry, it is not such a big deal. Just try not to do the same mistake
again. And always try to be careful about your attitude. Watch your steps and don’t do something that isn’t proper for the
school!
