Lunch and a latte (organic, free trade) were next on the menu. Obi and I headed for Café con Leche on Water Street facing the bay. The shop slogan is “good food, great coffee and stimulating conversation.” Outside on the long porch are tables, chairs and a water bowl already filled for canines. Two women having some of that stimulating conversation were gracious enough to hold Obi’s lead while I went inside to order. Lunch was the best shrimp burrito I’ve ever had. We shared. Afterwards we walked around town and meandered through Chapman Botanical Garden nestled at the foot of the hill below Orman House. In the evening, walking around Battery Park beneath the John Gorrie Bridge, an otter kept pace with us in the shallow water. The porch at Boss Oyster became our dinner destination. Naturally, oysters were on the menu.We stayed at Apalachicola River Inn where rooms face the bay, and joined guests sitting outside to watch the sky streak with sunset orange clouds. Obi quietly wrestled with his new bone while I let the sun’s fleeting light soak in to my own bones. The following morning, breakfast at Caroline’s Riverfront Restaurant had Obi off lead. We were the only ones on a screened porch area overlooking the bay. The breakfast recommendation? Oyster omelet. We shared. My thanks to the Apalachicola Bay Chamber of Commerce.
