Marshall Springs at Gayton West are the new apartments being built on Bacova Dr. About a half of a mile away is Colonial Trail Elementary School. About one and a half miles away is the new school, David A. Kaechele elementary, that is still under construction. A lot Colonial Trail parents do not want the children that are to live in the apartments to go to their children’s school because they are considered lower class. The people being rezoned to Kaechele Elementary are saying that it is ridiculous because the apartments are one minute away from Colonial Trail Elementary.
So far, numerous rezoning maps have been drawn with the input of the community-based redistricting committee. It is made up of 24 parents from schools affected by the rezoning. Twelve Henrico County Schools are liable to face changes concerning the new school that will open next September. These schools are Colonial Trail, Davis, Gayton, Longan, Nuckols Farm, Pinchbeck, Ridge, Rivers Edge, Shady Grove, Short Pump, Springfield Park, and Twin Hickory Elementary.
Many Colonial Trail parents that aren’t affected by the redistricting do not care whether the apartment children go to their child’s school. Some don’t care if the apartments are considered lower class. It is believed that the apartments are going to be zoned to Colonial Trail no matter what the parents say. Henrico County will most likely do what is easiest for the people living in the apartments and zone the children to Colonial Trail.
