Lee Kernaghan
A friendly , funny and kind hearted guy !
Speaking with Lee Kernaghan was arguably one of the nicest conversations I ’ ve ever had . He has sold over two million records , has 28 Golden Guitars , made 33 # 1 singles and has twice been named Country Music Hit Maker . Even with all of these high achievements , Lee Kernaghan has his feet on the ground and speaks kindly from the heart . When speaking about the awards he said , “ Yeah of course it ’ s great , but I wouldn ’ t have achieved it without having a great team around me .”
Technology has changed a lot over the last 20 years and having been in the business for so long , Lee Kernaghan has recorded albums the old school way and the new school way . “ I like the old school way of recording and I prefer the way vinyl sounds . The thing is though , you can ’ t stay stuck . So I adapt and grow with technology . I reckon I would enjoy recording an album the old school way with modern ideas … maybe one day !”
One interesting story that stood out was when Lee spoke about flying with Slim Dusty , as he told this story he could hardly contain his excitement . “ A couple of years ago now , I was heading over to WA for a festival . I sat down in my seat to get ready for the flight when I realised I was sitting next to the King , Slim Dusty . I was like a little boy , he was just great ! I wrote a song about it and made a video to tell the story , it ’ s called ‘ Flying with The King ’ and you can see it on Youtube .”

Finding Luna
Straight up , it ’ s about playing music !
Finding Luna are a local hip-hop phenomenon who ’ ve managed to make waves nationally . Yep , they ’ re living the dream . Full of attitude but cool as f #( k , we had a chat with Raymond in the middle of recording a brand new album worth spanking yourself about .
Paul : How ’ s all the Finding Luna stuff going ? Raymond : Good man , yeah it ’ s going to be cool . We haven ’ t recorded since July last year , we ’ ve been buying new equipment to make it happen and it ’ s taken us a while to get all our shit together . We won ’ t be recording drums yet , but we ’ ll record everything else like guitars , bass , pianos , vocals and stuff .”
Being a band that owns your own equipment , is recording music something you do daily ? “ Well for Josh yes . Like how you go home and play guitar , Josh will go home and make a beat or produce music .”
Yeah , every time I picture Josh I imagine him in the studio ! “ Yep , that ’ s him . That ’ s pretty much all he does .”
So what ’ s different about the new album you ’ re working on ? “ Just literally going to like , shit on our old album . That ’ s the best way to explain it . Because … umm … It ’ s just a completely different sound to our old EP . We ’ ve all gotten a lot better . It ’ s just going to better . For us anyway …”
THE REC ROOM is Townsville ’ s answer to all things music related . This high end recording studio situated in the heart of the CBD has more to offer than meets the eye .
Owner and musician Sam Wright has been playing in bands since the age of 14 and started recording music in his home studio by the age of 16 . After completing an audio engineering course Wright began doing some freelance work recording bands and doing live sound . Wright noticed a gap in the Townsville market and a real need for a high quality recording studio . Driven by his passion for music and his goal to help grow the Townsville music scene THE REC ROOM was born .
What does being a musician and a song writer mean to you ? “ Straight up … I see music as a hobby . I get right into it and think about it a lot . There are all these kids out there trying to get famous , trying so hard to be someone popular that they forget about the process of music . That ’ s all I care about , having fun and making music . I don ’ t care about being famous , I ’ ve already got my dream which is being able to play music .”

THE REC ROOM produces , mixes and masters using a combination of handmade analog equipment and the latest in digital technology . In the 6 months since opening Wright has had the pleasure of working with many local and national artists including King , Luke Thomas , Elle Graham , Michael Galloway ( Broken Needles ), Mathew Maclean , Lukio , Groove Music , Hazy , Jason Fichera , Jacob Long , The Deva Tree , Bounce Patrol , The Wee Johnny ’ s ( Townsville Shines ), Ghosts Over Japan , Mechanical Black plus many more .
The venue has hosted many sold out events since opening , the most recent being the launch of Erfan Daliri ’ s book ‘ Estebans Conclusions ’. Guests enjoyed spoken word poetry by Daliri followed by a performance by Tabi Sari .
This was also the first glimpse of the newly renovated bar hidden behind the studio . Eager to push the boundaries Wright asked local graffiti artists The Run Crew in to help him transform the back area with an insane mural . The new bar area is the ideal place for a few relaxed drinks and some impromptu jams .

Rockabilly Rebel
What ’ s the first thing that comes into your mind when you think of the movie Grease ? Is it the ladies with their big circle skirts , bobby socks , ponytails & short blunt fringes … Or maybe the guys with greased up hair , rolled up sleeves & cuffed denim jeans … Movies like this paint an image of what you think ‘ Rockabilly ’ is all about , but these are just a few ingredients of a culture that is growing rap idly worldwide and is definitely much more than a Hollywood blockbuster ! It isn ’ t just the fashion and it isn ’ t just the music , dancing or cars , for enthusiasts it is a way of life .
On September 21st , Townsville hosts its own Rock ‘ N ’ Rodz Nostalgia Festival where you can catch a glimpse of the culture that embraces the 1950 ’ s lifestyle that still continues on today .
