Why No BBQ ?

By Nick Perry MVHA Vice President
Hello everyone ! Many of you are probably wondering why our summer event does not feature our traditional BBQ . Let me offer a quick explanation .
Last year we decided to cater the BBQ for the first time and hired the Gold Rush Eatery food truck to serve their version of the classic Linda ’ s Parisian Burger . In previous years MVHA volunteers grilled the burgers ourselves on-site , but with greater attendance and a shortage of volunteers available to grill the burgers , we decided to switch to catering .
Unfortunately , this year the Gold Rush Eatery was not available on any Sundays in August , which left us in a bit of a pickle . To further complicate matters , we discovered in July that the Adobe Building was booked on our normal BBQ date ( the first Sunday of August ). The uncertainty over both the date and catering forced us to delay release of this newsletter and ate into the time we would normally use to promote the BBQ and sell tickets .
So we hope those of you pining for an MVHA BBQ Parisian Burger don ’ t mind a one-year break too much . We hope you ’ ll still join us for what is sure to be a fun , free , and tasty Apricot-themed summer meeting on August 19 !

Inaugural MV Harvest History Festival this

September

By Marina Marinovich MVHA Director-at-Large
Before there was tech , there were orchards . Silicon Valley was known as The Valley of Heart ’ s Delight , and Mountain View nestled serenely at its center .
Come to the Harvest History Festival and celebrate our valley ’ s rich and fertile past . Mountain view ’ s Heritage Park at 771 North Rengstorff Avenue will be home to this family-friendly event on Saturday September 22 , from 9:00 a . m . to noon . At the festival you ’ ll be able to tour Heritage Park ’ s gardens , sample harvest bounty , enjoy hands-on activities , and listen to live music by local folk-rock band , The Stragglyrs .
One component of the event that may be of special interest to MVHA members will be the grand unveiling of the historic Immigrant House ’ s periodappropriate furnishings . Some items that will be placed inside the Immigrant House came from the Pear family ranch in Mountain View and other items were actually in the house itself in the 1920s .
Of course , fresh fruit and vegetables were plentiful in Mountain View ’ s rich agricultural past , but every once in a while people would go out and buy canned goods too . Among the treasures we picked up from the United Methodist Women ’ s rummage sale was an antique can of green beans . So we ’ re stocking Immigrant House ’ s larder in anticipation of the big refurnishing reveal !
For more information about this FREE event , contact Mountain View Parks and Recreation at ( 650 ) 903-6331 . Participants include : MVHA , UCC Master Food Preservers , Master Gardener Program , Soil & Water , Santa Clara Water Color Society , Santa Clara Bee Keepers , Friends of Immigrant House , MV Kiwanis Club and Key Club and Mountain View Parks and Rec . Dept .
An event flyer is also included on page four of this newsletter . Hope to see you there !
