ABOUT THE EVENT
As summer draws to a close, the MVHA invites you to join us as we
celebrate all-things-apricot at our annual August get-together. We are very
excited to be joined by special guest speaker Lisa Prince Newman, author of
the new book, “For the Love of Apricots: Recipes and Memories of the Santa
Clara Valley.” This unique book blends heritage recipes and modern tastes
in a cookbook that showcases the versatility of California's beloved and
world-renowned fruit. Essays woven throughout the book provide historical
perspective on the Valley of Heart's Delight, as well as the author's
memories of growing up on an orchard property as the fruitful landscape
was being plowed under to form the Silicon Valley; perhaps one of history's
most dramatic transformations to occur within one generation.

ABOUT OUR GUEST SPEAKER
Lisa Prince Newman was born in Seattle, Washington, and
moved to California with her family in the 1960s where they
settled first in San Jose and then Saratoga. The Prince family
lived on an orchard property with views of the Santa Clara
Valley. It was there Lisa gained a deep appreciation for the
land, the seasons, and the region's agricultural heritage. At
Stanford University, Lisa studied Land Resources Planning and
later earned a Masters degree in City and Regional Planning
at UC Berkeley. Married and the mother of four children, Lisa lives in Marin County where she works
in city planning. Lisa's inspirations also include her mother's creativity in the kitchen and devotion
to gardening, augmented by many courses from Bay Area cooking schools. Cooking, baking, and
entertaining are a centerpiece of her everyday life.
