Kat Blankeheimer (left) had the important task of making sure there were enough super fries (AKA Tater Tots) for everyone, while Cliff Del Carlo (right) and family manned the grill. Thank you to all our volunteers! President’s Message By Candace Bowers MVHA President Greetings, MVHA members— It was good to see so many of you at our annual summer BBQ at the historic Adobe. As usual, we had a nice mix of long-time residents who love to share their memories and newcomers who want to learn more about their adopted city. We were treated to a screening of the documentary “The Legacy of Arrow Development,” which tells the story of a truly innovative Mountain View company that gave us many of our favorite and world-famous amusement park rides. Thank you Nicholas, Kimberly, Kris and Robert for sharing your film with us. And thank you to our members who pitched in to help us set up the room; prepare and serve our (authentically re-created) Parisian burgers; and clean up at the end of the event—Especially the Del Carlo and Blankenheimer families! Our Board members always work hard to bring you these programs, but we couldn’t do it without your help. And if you would like to become more involved in the Association, we are looking for members to join our Board in 2017. With several current Board members retiring or moving into other positions, the positions of Vice President and Secretary will soon be vacant. Please consider this opportunity to play a vital (and fun) role in your Association. You don’t need prior experience; perhaps this will be your first time on the board of any organization. The requirements? Enthusiasm for Mountain View and its history; attendance at our quarterly Board meetings, held in the History Center at the Library; and collaboration on some, but not always all, of our group events. Interested? Send us an email, or phone the History Center at (650) 903-6890. Our November event promises something new and different (while deeply “Mountain View”): the food, the entertainment, the special guest, and the chance for YOU to contribute in a unique way. 2
