Celebrating Mtn. View’s Mexican Heritage
Since its founding, Mountain View has been home to many
diverse communities made up of people from all corners
of the globe. One of the most deeply rooted is the
Mexican community, with a history stretching back to the
era of Mexican ranchos, when the Castro family owned
most of what is now Mountain View and Sunnyvale and
lived near what is now Rengstorff Park.
Early November is a time when Mexican communities
remember and honor their ancestors through Dia de
los Muertos (Day of the Dead) traditions. The MVHA
is excited to partner with Club Estrella—a Mexican
American social club founded in Mountain View in 1948—
to turn our November 6 membership meeting into
Mountain View’s first Dia de los Muertos celebration.
Members of the Castro family in front of their home, Villa
Francesca; currently the location of Rengstorff Park.
The event will feature presentations on the city’s
Mexican heritage, live mariachi music, and more! See
details on pages 5 and 6!
