Cokoko’s Guide to Japanese Horror Movies

Author: Cokoko

So you want to get in the mood for Tokyo and you don’t particularly feel the need to sleep? Here’s a short compilation of four Japanese horror films featuring creepy kids and stories that will make you nervous about electronics. Turn the lights off and curl up with popcorn or Pocky.

Ringu

The original of the well-known American remake, The Ring. The lady in the TV must be John’s girlfriend.

Ju-on: The Grudge

When someone dies in extreme sorrow or rage, the emotion remains and can leave a stain upon that place. This film reminds me of the Black House, although I never understood why the main character doesn't just blast that stalking ghost to death with Hard Reset.

Dark Water

A film by the director/author duo that’s responsible for Ringu. More spooky kids. This is a re-enactment of my meeting with Emma, although I'm not a middle aged woman in the middle of a divorce?

Chakushin Ari: One Missed Call

Imagine you get a phone call from yourself at the moment of your murder. It makes you give your cell phone some side eye. I wonder if the script writer was the victim of an Illuminati prank call. This premise feels like what happens when Kirstin Geary got bored.
