Story and Mission
What is your mission ?
The mission of Ransom Ministries is to empower those we serve to utilize their God-given gifts and talents in their career and community .
How long have you been serving the Gulf Coast ?
Ransom Ministries was founded in 2010 by Matt and Tara Armbruster after they attended a Bible study urging Christians to stop playing church and start living a life of true faith and dependence on God . They have been serving the Gulf Coast for over 11 years .
What ’ s the organization ’ s impact on the community ? 1 . RANSOM CAFÉ - How it all started
A donation-only restaurant model that operates in churches in Mobile and Baldwin counties . Guests pay what they can or volunteer for their meal . The Armbruster ’ s opened the first Ransom Café in 2010 .

Ransom ReProgram is a job readiness and soft skills training program that provides participants with tools to help them overcome barriers to employment , helping them move out of dependency and into personal responsibility and a fulfilling career . Participants work with mentors and are taught spiritual principles about work and relating to others . It costs tax payers an average of $ 31,000 per year to incarcerate one individual , but only costs Ransom Ministries an estimated $ 5,000 to place that individual into a job . By The Numbers : 2015-2020 : 323 participants ; 279 graduates ( 86 %); 227 of 279 graduates ( 81 %) employed after one year . 2021 : 96 participants ; 82 graduates ( 85 %) 2021 : 8 placed in Jobs thru Ransom Staffing
3 . RANSOM RECYCLING - Electronics Recycling
Established in 2019 , Ransom Recycling has been growing ever since . Recycle provides eligible ReProgram participants and / or graduates the opportunity to work in an entry-level position . It is a controlled work and learning environment for those reentering society from incarceration , addiction or homelessness . Participants take old , broken , outdated , endof-life electronics apart to harvest the things that are of value in them . They have the opportunity to earn a legitimate wage while getting the life skills and job readiness training that will help them become an excellent employee . The goal is to prepare the participants to obtain a better job in their chosen career field . 4 . ROAD TO WORK
Ransom Ministries seeks innovative ways to help the individuals experiencing homelessness and other barriers to break the cycles of poverty . In partnership with the City of Mobile , Ransom Ministries is offering a program to our community : Road to Work . Ideal participants are men or women who are currently experiencing homelessness and are staying in local emergency shelters . The Road to Work crew removes litter , trash , and debris from the roadsides and completes other efforts intended to boost the beautification of the City of Mobile . All participants are required to have a valid state issued identification for I-9 purposes and to complete basic OSHA safety training which is provided by Ransom Staffing Services . Participants benefit from having the opportunity to earn a legitimate wage while being connected with wrap-around services to help them break the cycles of poverty . With the addition of this new project , Ransom Ministries expects to be able to help 75 to 100 people experiencing homelessness within a year .
How To Do Some Good :
What are your most important needs ? Class leaders , Coaches / Mentors , Local Social Services and Donations .
Donations for Expansion :
Ransom Recycling needs 2 major pieces of equipment to further their Recycling services and expand their reach into the community : 1 . A Turn-Key Scrap Metal Processor Above : Forklift Training 2 . A Printed Circuit Board Processor The goal is to add the Turn-Key Scrap Metal Processor in 2022 and the Printed Circuit Board Processor in 2023 . Just by adding the Scrap Metal Processor , Ransom Recycling projects an 87 % increase in the number of participants , 563 additional tons of processed E-Waste , and triple the amount of revenue .
They are seeking 10 sponsors at $ 25,000 to purchase the Scrap Metal processor and put people back to work . Contributions towards the processor will have a lasting effect for years to come ; not just for the year in which they are given . Partners can make an investment that will have a long term impact , not only on the individuals being served and their families , but also on our environment and community .
