The Mobile Rundown Do Some Good in 2023 | Page 21

Story and Mission
In the summer of 2012 , a group of Mobile citizens came together who were inspired by Judge Edmond Naman ' s concern for the long-term welfare of young people in tragic circumstances . During that summer , Dr . Norman McCrummen brought together a group of agencies , churches , businessmen , teachers , counselors , civil servants and parents . Partnering with The Children ’ s Policy Council , this team was able to identify the following needs as the most pressing : education , mentoring , transportation , and ensuring ( to the degree possible ) a safe and healthy living environment . Those efforts became what is known today as NEST .
Our Impact
NEST serves the needs of at-risk youth and families in Mobile county through partnerships with agencies , organizations and individuals . Our goal is to nurture children , equip parents , strengthen families and transform communities .
NEST teams help youth achieve academic , employment and personal goals . Teams also help families with employment , budgeting , meal planning , housing and more . NEST parents may also qualify for participation in our Parent Management Training program aimed at teaching positive parenting skills . Our hope is that teams and families will develop a relationship to last a lifetime through their NEST experience .
How To Do Some Good :
Volunteer : All volunteers must pass a Criminal Background Investigation , Child Abuse / Neglect Central Registry Clearance and reference check . Once an entire team ’ s application has been approved , applicants will be contacted by NEST for their youth assignment .
