For example, the Apple Mac helped Hébert to create a software
that permitted him to control a steel ball rolling across a table
covered with sand, tracing patterns evocative of a Japanese Zen
garden. Similarly a pen was manufactured that crisscrossed in
concentric lanes on a piece of paper, documenting how something
might move in water while another design tool was created that
could move over a sheet of copper, creating a printing plate that,
when inked and applied to paper, will produce something that
looks like a shaded topographical map.’
