How dare she show up at the mess for TGIF with that cute new colour and cut… you’ll just HAVE to out-do her hairstyle. After all, you have a better figure so the same hairstyle on you will look SO much cuter than hers. Your husband only gives you a small portion of his paycheque since the “shoe incident” and you just can’t afford high salon prices. What’s a wife to do?
If you have some knowledge of how to cut and colour, lucky you. Go pick up a box of colour, some good sharp scissors and a comb. The downside to this method is if you have no idea what you’re doing, you could end up looking really stupid. The upside to looking stupid is that if you totally screw it up, maybe your husband will be embarrassed enough to pay for a real stylist.
Assuming you have any, ask a friend to help. Make sure she knows exactly the look you're going for, and maybe even pick up an extra box of colour so you can return the favour. That way if she messes you up too much, you can quickly and easily get your revenge.
A recent survey of military wives across Canada suggests a growing trend towards hairdressing schools. The upside to the schools is definitely the price, where a $30 salon haircut might cost you only $10. Another positive is that there are always instructors watching so the students won’t make the same kinds of careless mistakes a more seasoned stylist might. The downside? You’re still dealing with someone who’s learning how to do this so if you’re finicky about your hair, this might not be the best choice for you.
