ACCE Definition, 1992 As healthcare ever grows more technology-intensive and its reliance on safe, effective, and resilient technology also increases – so is the criticality of the clinical engineering profession. Most members of the healthcare delivery team are professionals who completed training in particular specialty. As Clinical Engineering (CE) professionals we are responsible for the management of the technology life-cycle and for supporting the enterprise’s mission. The quality of our work must be unquestionable even though that CE programs are subjected to administrative and corporate pressures. As professionals, we should subject ourselves to and enforce certain minimum standards of training, continuing education, performance and conduct. The word profession comes from a Latin phrase that means ―public declaration‖ as well as defined by Webster dictionary as ―a calling requiring specialized knowledge along with often long and intensive academic training.‖ The characteristics of a professional include: Expertise/Knowledge, Commitment, Accountability,
