Lolspeak originated with the beginning of
lolcats, a popular meme from the mid-2000s.
Lolspeak is an imitation of how internet
users collectively decided a cat might speak
English. It mostly involved replacing certain
letters such as ‘s’ for ‘z’ and swapping gram-
mar from ‘Can I have a cheeseburger?’ to
‘I can haz cheezeburger?’ which was a pop-
