Wildlife T he Maine Highlands’ lakes, forests and mountains are home to a rich variety of wildlife, including some species more commonly found farther North like the pine marten, Canada lynx, snowshoe hare, and gray fox. The area is best known for its high population of moose and black bear, but sharp-eyed visitors can also spot white tailed deer, numerous migratory and native birds, and a huge variety of small mammals.
