Assalaamu-Alaykum Wa Rahmat’Allah Wa Barakatu brothers & sisters, this piece of writing is dedicated to best of all creation, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his purified offspring). Verily Allah and His angels send Blessings upon the Prophet; O you who believe send your peace and blessings upon him. This article is dedicated to the Final Prophet of Allah (pbuhahf) and aims to give some insight into whom Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) was and hopes to educate the reader about certain qualities and characteristics he (s.a.w) possessed and also some lessons which we could learn from him (sawas) God-Willing. On Monday, the twelfth day of Rabi al-Awwal in the Year of the Elephant, Aminah gave birth to a son. Allah swt Sends man many signs, when one of His chosen Prophets is born and on that twelfth day of Rabi al-Awwal in the year 570 A.D, many such signs were seen. Some were seen by Jewish scholars who had read in their scriptures of a coming Prophet. One of these learned men in Yathrib, for instance, saw a brilliant new star he had never seen before as he studied the heavens that night. He called the people around him and, pointing the star out to them, told them a Prophet must have been born. That same night another Jew was passing by the meeting place of the leaders of Quraysh in Mecca. He asked them if a baby boy had just been born and told them that if it were true, this would be the Prophet of the Arab nation. Aminah sent news of the birth to her father-in-law, 'Abd al-Muttalib, who was sitting near the Ka'bah at the time. He was very happy and began at once to think of a name for the boy. An ordinary name would not do. Six days came and went and still he had not decided. But on the seventh day, as he lay asleep near the Ka’bah, 'Abd al-Muttalib dreamt that he should give the baby the unusual name of Muhammad, just as Aminah herself had dreamt. And the child was called Muhammad (s.a.w.), which means 'the Praised One'. The Holy Qur’an (21:107) "And We have not sent you except as a mercy to all of creation" He for whom the world had long been waiting came at last. There was joy everywhere on the Earth and in the skies. When Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) was born, He only had a mother by the name of Amina (pbuh). She had given the young baby to a wet nurse called Halima (pbuh). The moment Halima (s.a.w) took Muhammad (s.a.w) in her lap, a strange feeling of peace and joy took hold of her heart. She had four children of her own, with her husband Harith. They had become the proud foster parents of the little boy. They were not rich, but Muhammad (s.a.w) brought happiness into their lives. The goats and sheep grew fatter; they now gave much more milk. The life of the family became richer and fuller. Muhammad (s.a.w) was no ordinary boy, his fosterbrother could see he (s.a.w) was different, stones greeted him as he passed by, “Peace be upon you O Prophet of Allah”, they heard voices say. They also saw trees and bushes bend low to the foster brother. He went back to stay with his mother and stayed with her till the age of six, at this time he had become an orphan as his mother passed away. Muhammad (s.a.w) then was taken in and stayed under the eyes of his Uncle, Abu Talib a.s. Muhammad (s.a.w) was a fair man with a rosy tinge, his height was slightly taller than average. He was described as a handsome person with prominent forehead, high tipped nose, long eyelashes, large black eyes with well set teeth and a pleasant smile. He had slightly curly hair and a thick beard. Some even indicated that he had a friendly bright face and looked like a full moon. His cheerfulness and open personality were felt by all the people. Muhammad (s.a.w) was always the first to greet the others and would not withdraw his hand from a hand shaker until until the other man would his. When he looked at others, he looked at them in full face. If someone called him he did not turn his face only, but gave attention with his whole body. When at home, he would divide his time into three parts, one for God, one for his family and one for himself. He always joined in household work and would at times mend his own clothes, repair his shoes and sweep the floor. He used to dress well and always had a nice smell. After dawn prayers, he would remain sitting in the mosque reciting the Holy Qur’an and would worship Allah swt until the sun rose. After midnight, he (s.a.w) he used to get up for the tahajjud prayers. There are so many things which come to mind when pondering over this great personality. I pray that with my limitations, I can do justice in describing who this great personality was. I wish to perhaps tell you who Muhammad (s.a.w) is to me, according to that which I have learned 7
