The Magnet® Model | Page 5

The initial qualities that characterized the first designated “ Magnet ® ” hospitals in the early nineties , named the “ Forces of Magnetism ,” are still used to designate organizations . Today , Magnet Recognition ® remains a sought-after credential given to select healthcare organizations that stand out for their exceptional staff and care .
As healthcare evolves , the American Nurses Credentialing Center ( ANCC ) ensures the Magnet Recognition Program ® Model remains relevant through regular evaluation and updates . The most recent changes were made in 2020 with the presentation of the next generation model : “ This new model is designed to provide a framework for nursing practice and research in the future , as well as serving as a roadmap for organizations seeking to achieve Magnet Recognition ® ” ( ANCC , 2021 ).
One significant change includes a reorganization to incorporate the 14 Forces of Magnetism into 5 Model Components : transformational leadership , structural empowerment , exemplary professional practice , new knowledge , innovation , and improvements , and empirical quality results . Encompassing the 5 Model Components is the recognition of diverse global issues in nursing and healthcare . iv
