quelle parti può verificare se e quanto abbia ragione . Non si raccontano i film , anche quando non c ’ è di mezzo James Bond , ma in materia di viaggio tra location va senz ’ altro menzionata la sequenza in cui si festeggia la fine della guerra nel cuore della vicina Pienza . E se anche non sapessimo di stare in Toscana , lo scopriremmo nel corso dei festeggiamenti , in cui compare il fiasco impagliato del Chianti , iconico recipiente di un vino conosciuto nel mondo . Montepulciano , Cosona , Ripafratta , ma anche Trieste e il Lido di Venezia sono le altre location italiane del film , che rivela a un certo punto – ciliegia sulla torta delle meraviglie – gli affreschi di Piero della Francesca nella Basilica di San Francesco ad Arezzo , con un sorprendente meccanismo di illuminazione che è vero espediente di avvicinamento alla bellezza .
Un posto meraviglioso in cui perdersi Ne troveremo altra , di bellezza , nella nuova tappa del nostro piccolo viaggio senza regole , che con la precedente ha in comune il regista Anthony Minghella , britannico , ma con un cognome di cui non è difficile supporre le radici italiane . Minghella , che in effetti le aveva , deve averla molto amata l ’ Italia , e ne mostra parecchia anche dentro Il talento di Mr Ripley , raffinato thriller in cui la penisola è molto più che uno sfondo : luogo di sole , bellezza , passione e tentazioni che ne fanno vero personaggio del film . Siamo al sud stavolta , e il luogo che ne offre una versione vibrante e movimentata si chiama Mongibello . Non cercatelo sulle mappe , perché è frutto di fantasia e non lo trovereste , ma visitare Ischia e Procida può essere un ’ occasione per riconoscere molte location di una pellicola che mette in pagina tradizioni locali e qualche luogo comune (“ L ’ ho preso a Napoli – si dice a un certo punto di un gioiello – e ho dovuto trattare sul prezzo per due settimane ”), e al tempo stesso esprime un desiderio di vita e di bellezza che nessun ’ altra ambientazione saprebbe rendere con altrettanta efficacia . We are of course watching The English Patient , a masterpiece awarded nine Oscars and therefore regarded as deserving of a place in the upper echelons of film history . The film takes us gradually through a discovery of the man ’ s past , punctuated by brief moments in his very painful present . Pain surrounded by beauty , so much so that the moment when Hana wants to move the bed so he can truly see the panorama outside is one of the most memorable in the film . " It ’ s good ,” she says bluntly , and anyone who has the opportunity to visit this region will know how right she is . We ’ re not going to talk about the films , even when James Bond isn ’ t involved , but when it comes to travelling between glorious locations , the sequence celebrating the end of the war in the heart of nearby Pienza should certainly not be missed . And even if we didn ’ t know we were in Tuscany , this soon becomes clear – a bottle of Chianti , that iconic vessel for a worldfamous wine , lets the audience know exactly where we are . Montepulciano , Cosona , Ripafratta , but also Trieste and the Venice Lido are the other Italian locations used in the film . And at one point we even get a glimpse of the splendour of Piero della Francesca ’ s frescoes in the Basilica of San Francesco in Arezzo , lit using a special mechanism to showcase their extraordinary beauty .
A wonderful place to get lost in And there is yet more beauty in the next stop on our little meandering journey . Our next film in fact shares its director with the previous one – Anthony Minghella , a film maker who is decidedly British , but whose surname gives away his Italian roots . Minghella , whose parents were both from Italian immigrant families , must indeed have loved Italy very much , and he shows a lot of it in The Talented Mr . Ripley , a refined thriller in which the country is much more than a simple backdrop : a place of sunshine , beauty , passion and temptations , which in fact exists almost as a genuine character in the film .
