The art of the word
Benedetto.Croce, in his books on Aesthetics, states that art precedes philosophy in the cognitive act, of which it constitutes the intuitive phase. Art in general and poetry in particular is called "expression" as an object of communication. Poetry is subject to the dialectic movement beautiful / ugly, distinctly distinct from any other, as true / false (inherent in the philosophical concept), good / bad (ethics) useful / harmful (economy and politics). This means that the critical evaluation of a poetic text must separate what is poetry from what is not, although there are ethical, political or other kinds of suffering.
I still consider valid the Crocian conception of the so-called dialectic of the distinct, for which each of the aspects of active and cognitive life (politics, ethics, art, philosophy) is autonomous, distinct from the other three, although co-present in a subordinate position. It follows that a politician, who has achieved considerable utility and advantages for his people, remains a great politician, although morally reprehensible and that a low-profile poet remains a politician, even if he has carried out important tasks, useful to his people or has always maintained irreproachable behavior.
