The Cost of Watching Sport
After some extensive research, we came up with some staggering facts that add to the experience of watching our beloved game.
Perth stadium costs exceed $ 1.5 billion
“ both the Federal Government and Australian Football League had been approached about contributing to the stadium cost but neither party had yet agreed to do so” West Coast’ s bid for State Government funding for their proposed $ 60 million training base.
A 60,000 seat Stadium, albeit multipurpose, big but on a world scale? Rungrado May Day Stadium, Pyongyang, North Korea Capacity: 150,000
That aside it is impressive and although they claim the transport strategy ensures the safe and efficient movement of 83 % of a capacity crowd within an hour of an event finishing, I prefer the options here in Vung Tau. Finish your drink after the game, ask the waitress to call a taxi, get up walk outside, taxi is waiting to whisk you away to the next venue – 2 mins and only 20,000 ₫($ 1).
The stadium has over 1,000 TV screens that are strategically located throughout the interior of the Stadium so fans never miss the action. So if you are going to a $ 1.5billion stadium to watch a game, why are you looking at the TV screens?
Because you are too far away from the action to see it! Whereas here in Vung Tau every sports bar has huge screens and no entry fee.
Fans will be able to utilise up to 70 food and beverage outlets and still be able to view the action on the field. Right, well we may not have 70 food & beverage outlets in our local sports bar but we do have table service, standard and special menus, plus snack food, and if you really can’ t find anything you like have a look at the vendors outside the door.
ESSENDON fans might be the most loyal in the competition— and it appears the club is repaying the faith where membership is concerned. The Bombers boast the cheapest membership of any club in the AFL this season, with an 11-game membership a whopping $ 235 cheaper than the most expensive: West Coast’ s 11-game reserved seat package. For families, the news is even better. Two adults and two children can attend 11 Essendon home games for $ 475. But in the West, an Eagles family of four must fork out $ 1334 for the same experience.
As the discrepancy between a West Coast and Essendon membership highlights, there’ s no equalisation policy when it comes to the footy fan. In the West you are asked to fork out the most. A general admission ticket for an adult at Subiaco Oval will set you back between $ 36.50 and $ 86.
AT HOME OR AWAY
West Coast tops the table for the most expensive adult membership at $ 475. It’ s interesting to note that neither team from the West has an 11-game general admission membership option. However, that doesn’ t seem to have deterred Eagles fans— all reserved seating memberships were sold out for 2016. You can join the waiting list. But that will cost you, too.
