belief In Years 7 and 8, students study Systems of Belief. This course aims to provide insight into the religious and secular belief systems that have shaped, and continue to shape, our world. It is our aim that through engaging in Systems of Belief our students will become increasingly aware of how our beliefs and values affect the way we view the world. The Year 7 and 8 courses are centred around key philosophical, sociological and ethical thinking questions. In Year 7, we explore the following themes: commitment, creation, rules, wisdom and prophecy. In Year 8, we explore forgiveness and punishment, miracles, sacrifice, life and death, war and peace and symbolism in art. In order to explore these themes and questions we consider a variety of religious, cultural or ethical perspectives and incorporate examples from a wide range of disciplines such as literature and art. At the end of each term students are given the opportunity to take their understanding of one of the key themes further, cultivating their critical thinking skills by completing an independent or group project. Projects include writing essays, making presentations and creating their own forms of AI. the lower SCHOOL | AT SEVENOAKS 35
