One of my desires would be just to be out of debt, and financially secure. I will be the first to admit, I was not a good girl in college. I got credit cards because I got a free t-shirt. Then suddenly, you mean all I have to do is swipe this card and what I want to buy is mine? Only, I didn’t realize back then, I needed to pay for that item at another time. The bill would come, hey mom and dad will pay it, wrong it was my credit card, it was my responsibility. I ruined my credit doing that.
Years later, I still pay for that stupidity on my part. I was in the process of rebuilding my credit when I got married. My ex, even though I told him my credit was bad, was very upset to see I had a few negative things on the report. I learned a huge lesson, every time you dispute things on your credit report; it gets another 7 years to stay on it. Creditors are quick to report it, but take forever and a day to take it off. Well they were not taking it off quick enough for him, and that was how I lost my privileges to spend money.
I was given $100 to last me per pay period and with that I had to put gas in my car with it, which usually took most the allowance I had. It did teach me did I want it, or did I need it type of mind frame. My credit was going getting better until, he told me I had two weeks to get out, and I was to be out by December 1, he was divorcing me. Well due to being kicked out, and not having a savings, well I did but I had to use it totogether and sometimes you need to change your mind set to get financially responsible. In my case it was both, and I am very glad I did. We can come up with all the excuses as to why cannot save, but the truth is it just takes a little effort, and actually doing it to see it rally can be done. When you do what I do, you don’t see the money in the check you live on, so you’re not tempted to spend it. The secret so can save, hide the ATM card. Mine well in the lingerie drawer hidden so I do not use it. It can be done, when you’re ready to save, you can do it. Now if I can only find legit make money on the internet, without spending money on it, I will be good for gas money!
