Fake Feelings

Inessa Accilien

A feigned tragedy is what we were.

I didn't know then, but I know now for sure:

Pretend emotions.

Fake Feelings.

That's what it was

for sure.

We swore our lives to each other

on the stars above.

We said we'd last forever

and what we had was true love.

But we were young and stupid,

got in way over our heads.

Pierced by the same love arrow of Cupid,

meaning the words we said.

Then the little white lies

began to fester in our hearts.

The relationship— all for attention's cries—

is what drew us apart.

Fighting, yelling, bitter screaming;

fancy dinner, words with meaning;

dark bruises, numb hearts bleeding;

Passionate kisses, a single heart beating.

The vicious cycle that kept on repeating

a tragically stupid relationship

based on fake feelings.
