I screamed as I let go of my ramp in shock and closed my eyes as I was about to hit the snow head first!
Until…
Someone grabbed me as I was about to hit the ground. I opened my eyes to see that I’m only a few feet away from the smooth solid ground. I was suspended in the air as I felt someone’s arms wrapped around my body. But not in a natural way, it was like a cartoon, where the limbs wrap around something like a snake, and I can feel the hands on opposite sides of me. I hear no one but my confused self. Then I hear a small clicking, like from an old clock, as the arms retract, and I hear two sets of footsteps come near.
I look up to see a familiar face, Clyde, as he looks at me, both worried and shocked as well.
“Hola,” I said.
“H-hi Leo” he said. His eyes darted to me, then to something opposite from me. I can’t look at who’s behind me but the other set of footsteps came close to me.
“Are you alright?” a boy’s voice came from behind me. I still can’t see who’s behind me, but he sounds familiar.
“Yeah, uh, can you put me down now? I’m a little creeped out.” I replied. Clyde nods his head in agreement.
“Ah, right,” the boy replied. I feel the limbs set me to a standing position and unwrap around me. Clyde held me close to keep me from falling and leaned to me.
“Leo don’t panic, but look behind you.” I turned around to see what’s behind me. Nothing but falling snow, I do see a pair of footprints in the distance, almost like whoever saved me ran away.
“I could’ve sworn I saw someone stretch their arms to save you, nevermind. So… now what?” he asked me. I thought to myself. I don’t know how to address the situation that happened before us. I thought of the many things that can change the subject, then I thought about my make believe party. I know it might hurt him, but I’d only met him yesterday so… why should I?
“Um, about that concept of that party.” I said.
“Yeah?” he asked. I took a deep breath and braced myself.
“Look, I lied about it. I never actually wanted a party before winter break. I just wanted to make friends around my age, I’m only friends with some elementary schoolers at an after school center my Mama works at. I know that they’re pretty awesome to hang with, but I felt like a babysitter instead of a friend to them. I just… I just want to fit in with the other middle schoolers, but you’ve probably seen how that
