SAFES MAUER Keylocks » SAFELOCK SYSTEMS LTD SUPPLY Mauer keylocks to the safe engineer and locksmith trade. Directors Jasmine Hunt- Brown and Tony Brown provide some useful information on the standard Mauer keylock range. A brief history Owned for decades by the entrepreneur Mauer family, from which the company took its name, Mauer was founded in 1864, in Heiligenhaus, the lock- making heart of Germany. The word Mauer itself translates to English as ‘wall’ - apt for a security company developing products for safe makers and bank suppliers. Mauer was purchased by ILCO in 1998, which then became part of the KABA group in 2002. Most recently, the Mauer brand, experience and product range are part of the dormakaba group, delivering security for every global industry. Levers Mauer keylocks use levers turned by a double-bitted key, which release blocking elements and pull the bolt back into the body. The security level of a keylock is increased by the number of levers it contains. The 8-lever President lock for example has 280,000 theoretical key code variations, whilst the 11-lever Praetor has 60 million possible key code variations.
