The Locksmith Journal Jan/Feb 2023 - Issue 84 | Page 4

NO NEED FOR INTRODUCTIONS ?

When I write the intro for the first issue of a new year , for one of our magazines , I always like to look back on its counterpart from the year before . It ’ s nice to see how far we ’ ve come ( and what I ’ ve been babbling on about for a year ). This time , last year ( exactly the same day ), I was writing my intro for The Locksmith Journal Jan-Feb 2022 , and I ’ ve taken this excerpt from it :
» “ WE ’ VE GOT 50,000 WORDS EVERY TWO MONTHS at TLJ to inspire and inform , educate and innovate , share and care about . We have a fortnightly newsletter to fill in the gaps in between , but taking those 50,000 printed words every other month , what do we want to say about our industry , what do we want to ask and answer , who do we want to hear from ?” Well , it ’ s now approximately 300,000 words later , and I initially I thought I ’ d ponder on what we ’ ve all been doing , where we ’ ve been etc throughout those six magazines – but then I thought what about the new readers that joined us throughout 2022 ?
So , rather than looking back all the way to the start of last year , I ’ m saying hello to everyone that joined us along the way . Maybe this is the first issue of The Locksmith Journal you ’ ve ever received – if so welcome ! Maybe it ’ s your 84th ( seriously , I ’ d love to hear from you if it is ). For me , it ’ s about my 26 / 27th , and I ’ ve loved working on every single one .
Lots of things have changed since my first issue of The Locksmith Journal , and even more has changed since Issue 01 of the magazine itself , I find comfort in that , just as some people find comfort in no change at all . Reading Brian Morland ’ s 1,400 words every two months in the History & Heritage section shows hundreds of years of change , and our Going Forward feature at the start of every year maps out what ’ s still to come .
Just like the locksmiths who have joined us throughout the year though , the ‘ middle bits ’ are really interesting too , aren ’ t they ? Because whenever we make a change , or start something different it ’ s our own new year , whatever the date . Every day can be 1st January , or Monday , or the new day of school or work .
And for anyone who doesn ’ t know me yet , I ’ m Gemma , and I ’ ll be here next time , and I hope you will too .
