We saw an installation room with working areas with benches with tools and shadow-boarding , where students can take doors in and out , and see the applications and test evidence for products . The centre explains how the legislation has changed , provides handson inspecting and installation techniques . Students can learn about the important role of smoke seals and intumescent ; what products to fit and why , and practise fitting them . The centre also has a room dedicated to product testing .

It is estimated that there are over 500,000 Houses of Multiple Occupancy ( HMO ) in the UK ( source : Gov . uk ), and many more residential institutions such as hospitals , care homes and boarding schools . Also , non-residential high-risk buildings such as offices and public buildings . All of this is a potential new income stream for those willing to train to undertake the work .
