Revised Sold Secure and TS007 standards are setting higher benchmarks for residential cylinder performance, particularly around resistance to the latest attack methods and standalone protection.
Updated to Sold Secure SS312 Diamond 2024 and BSi TS007- 1:2024, these standards place greater emphasis on prolonged attack conditions, post-cylinder manipulation protection and maintaining security around the locking mechanism even after significant force has been applied to the cylinder itself.
This is already influencing how manufacturers are approaching residential 3-star cylinder design. Product development is increasingly focused on anticipating the demands of the revised standards before they formally take effect. This means greater attention on sacrificial break technology, structural reinforcement, key control and overall cylinder resilience under sustained attack conditions.
The distinction between 1-star and 3-star cylinders has become even more significant within the context of future compliance and residential specification. A 1-star cylinder remains part of a combined solution, requiring additional security furniture such as a 2-star handle to achieve the highest TS007 rating.
A 3-star cylinder is independently tested as a standalone security component, designed to deliver attack resistance through the cylinder itself without reliance on supplementary hardware.
