WHY BURG-WÄCHTER SETS THE GOLD STANDARD IN GUN CABINET SECURITY
» ACCORDING TO GOV. UK, IN 2024, there were approximately two million legally held firearms and shotguns in the UK. It goes without saying that any falling into the wrong hands could be potentially dangerous. That’ s why stringent rules and regulations exist to protect everyone’ s safety. Rightly so, it is mandatory for the owners of weapons – such as hunters, shooting sports enthusiasts or holders of service weapons – to store their weapons in a specially secured gun cabinet. Here, Andrew Field, Managing Director of Burg- Wächter UK outlines why the company’ s gun cabinet range is the gold standard when it comes to firearms security.
Andrew explained:“ Here in the UK, firearms and ammunition- at all times- must be stored securely to prevent access to it by an unauthorised person. The security of firearms, ammunition and shotguns can be achieved using a secure cabinet- fixed to the structure, located to impede or frustrate attack or identification by persons visiting the premises- conforming to the requirements of BS7558( 1992).”
Burg-Wächter exceeding standards
Giving real peace of mind however, Burg-Wächter gun cabinets far exceed the requirements set out in BS7558( 1992) and are fully compliant with the stringent European standard EN 1143-1. This is a rigorous standard, tested by independent accredited labs, for burglary resistance in safes. Whilst many gun cabinets only meet basic local regulations, EN 1143-1 is far more demanding ensuring resistance to physical break-in with professional tools, to provide a high level of security that meets modern certified security safe standards.
Exceptional German design and engineering
Designed and manufactured in Germany to the highest possible standards, Burg-Wächter’ s Ranger N5 and N7 gun cabinets – accommodating five or seven rifles and ammunition respectively – deliver exceptional quality and performance. Triple-walled construction,
double-walled doors and solid 3-sided locking through 25mm round bolts enhance resistance against unauthorised access. Prepared as standard for back wall fixing, the gun cabinets come with four pre-drilled anchor points and there is a handy all-over rear gripping bar featured on the hinge side to help manoeuvre the cabinet into place.
In addition, a non-resettable double emergency re-locking mechanism within the door mechanics gives more security, whilst a cleaning rod holder and storage compartment sits on the inside of the door.
Both the Ranger N5 and N7 are insured for £ 6,000 cash or £ 60,000 valuables, as recognised by the Association of Insurance Surveyors.
For larger guns, the Ranger 800 / 8 is ideal thanks to its clearance height of 1200 mm. Reassuringly offering the same sturdy construction as the N5 and N7, the Ranger 800 / 8 additionally provides protection against fire, which is an uncommon feature, and is insured for £ 10,000 cash or £ 100,000 valuables.
But what about the locks? Andrew said:“ We have three locking options available to choose from for our gun cabinets – key, code or fingerprint. The code or fingerprint methods add an extra layer of security, since if a burglar finds a distinctive gun cabinet key, it may encourage them to make an effort to seek out the cabinet.
“ Our Version S SecuSafe is an armoured security double-bit lock, VdS tested, Class 1 and ECB certified according to EN1300 class A. With nine levers and one million different key differs, this lock comes with two keys.
“ Our Version E SecuTronic is an electronic combination lock, delivering one million different codes and is also ECB certified according to EN 1300 class A.
“ Our programmable electronic ECB certified fingerprint module – Version E FP SecuTronic, features a graphic display with admin code, up to nine user codes and twenty fingerprints. There is also a‘ Fake Fingerprint Detection’ feature to identify only live fingers.”
Exceeding expectations
Andrew continued:“ Thoughtfully designed with the attention to detail you would expect from refined German engineering, all Burg-Wächter gun cabinets boast superior certification for both the cabinet bodies as well as the locks fitted to them. In addition, the levels of insurance available on our gun cabinets isn’ t just about compliance, it reflects trust from the insurance industry too. When housing something as important and potentially dangerous as a firearm plus live ammunition, it makes sense to choose the best possible product available and recommend it to your customers.
“ At Burg-Wächter, we pride ourselves on delivering high quality, easy to install and use security products for all our valued customers. Our Ranger gun cabinets offer the ultimate in safety, protection and reassurance for both locksmiths and their customers.”
