The British Brand Saving Lives One Window at a Time
» AFTER THREE DECADES LEADING A major UK packaging firm, Eric Collins wanted to make a difference. In 2019, he teamed up with long-time associate Jit Singh to acquire Jackloc, the British brand behind the original cable window restrictor. Their mission? To grow a business that saves lives- one window at a time.
Tell us a little about your journey before becoming MD of Jackloc
Most of my working life was spent in the corporate world, where I ran a large packaging business with a UK turnover of £ 150 million. We employed over 1,000 people across multiple manufacturing sites throughout the UK and Ireland. My focus was always on health and safety and employee engagement- we earned national recognition for our achievements in both areas.
After 30 years, I left the business in 2017. I felt it was time to“ row my own boat” and looked for a business I could invest in— something that aligned with my values and interests. That opportunity came in the form of Jackloc, a business built around life-saving products. The idea that people could come home from work in the same condition they arrived really resonated with me.
I acquired the company in 2019 alongside my business associate, Jit Singh, who owns 40 % of the company. Jit, a solicitor by profession, had previously run a business called House Prercival and now serves as Jackloc’ s Chairman.
Jackloc itself has a proud heritage. It was founded over 20 years ago by Derek Horne, the inventor of the original cable window restrictor. His daughters later took the reins and built a strong, trusted brand- so much so that“ Jackloc” became synonymous with window restrictors, much like“ Hoover” did with vacuum cleaners. When the family decided it was time to exit, we saw a chance to take a great British brand to the next level.
Today, Jackloc products are trusted and sold around the world.
What inspired you to acquire Jackloc?
For me, it was personal. I’ ve always had a strong interest in health and safety and wanted to make a real difference— to help reduce accidents and ultimately save lives. When I left my corporate role, I was determined to find a business that aligned with those values, and Jackloc ticked every box. It’ s a company with a meaningful purpose and a product that genuinely protects people.
