The Anonymous YouTube Locksmith Trainer : The Beginner Locksmith
With 1.5K subscribers , The Beginner Locksmith is a rising star in auto-locksmithing online education . Based in the United States , little was known about this popular channel in the UK until they spoke to The Locksmith Journal . The digital landscape has enabled us to explore differences and similarities across the pond .
May I ask why you keep your YouTube channel anon ?
There ’ re several reasons why I choose to remain anonymous on my channel . First , the title “ The Beginner Locksmith ” serves as a placeholder for other aspiring locksmiths who watch the channel . Additionally , there ’ re safety concerns due to the small world we live in . For instance , when selling a key machine with a video on Facebook Marketplace , I was recognised by my voice .
‘ I can ’ t picture myself doing anything else .’
Similarly , on chess . com , I was identified by my handle “ The Beginner Locksmith ” by someone from Sri Lanka . It can be uncomfortable being known by others while not knowing them . Although the channel has 1.5K subscribers , which is relatively small for YouTube , recognition is still possible . Anonymity also gives me the freedom to stop making videos without any concerns .
Do you train locksmiths all over the world ? Which skills are universal around the globe ?
I don ’ t train people , but they learn from my content , and I ’ ve gained subscribers from the UK . Lishi picking is universal . Many auto-locksmiths use the same key machines , and I create videos on updating and calibrating them .
How do you market your business ?
Typically , I began by driving around locally distributing flyers and cards . I also advertise when I don ’ t have any scheduled appointments . Additionally , I regularly jot down notes and ideas for future YouTube videos when I ’ m out on jobs .
Where did you train ?
I went to the California Institute of locksmithing and learned the fundamentals and have been an autolocksmith for about a year . I self-funded all my locksmith education . I trained at an accredited locksmith school in my area called California Institute of Locksmithing .
What types of locks do you have in US ?
In general locksmithing we also have Euro cylinders , but I mainly handle automotive keys , especially for Hondas and Toyotas with TR47 and HO01 keyways .
Is your training free or chargeable ? Regarding my channel , it is entirely free of charge . I do not impose any fees for access . Much of the content covers topics with limited available information . For instance , I am currently producing a series on the TOY38R keyway , which is used in older Toyota models but remains relevant due to their continued presence .
Moreover , I recall seeking information in the past and being unable to locate it , hence the focus of my channel on educating about older yet pertinent automotive keyways .
