My name is Will Thompson and I am the President of the LMSS for 2017 / 18, I am hugely proud to be welcoming you to Liverpool, helping you get involved in everything the LMSS has to offer! This may be sports, drama, music, adventure, charity and oh yeah the reason we are all here.... academic work. Sometimes its easy to forget that we will doing work with all the other activities offered by the LMSS! I can promise you that you will always find something to do or someone to speak to in the LMSS! All I can say is Don’ t Be Shy( DBS) and get involved in as much as you can! The LMSS has something going on all the time throughout the year, so when you’ re not sat at a desk or in hospital, you will always have loads to keep yourself entertained! As you will go on to read there are a number of balls held by the LMSS for all medical students, each one unique in its own way. These support amazing local charities and will have up to 800 medics attending. There are loads of medics sports teams which will welcome people of all standards from complete novice to representative level. These teams compete in local and national competitions so there are plenty of chances to represent the LMSS against other medical schools and bring home some silverware!
The mentor-mentee system is amazing! This will allow you to meet your second year mentor who will help you in all aspects of life during your time in Liverpool! They will host a welcome night for you early in the year where they will cook for you and get to know you, before taking you for a night out in THE RAZ!!! You will get to know this place throughout your time in Liverpool, it is everyones second home during first year as you make your pilgrimage there every Monday night! Your mentor will then put on fantastic teaching when you need it most before exams! This brings us onto‘ The Grand Round’..... this mysterious annual event will be taking part on 24th November 2017. It dates back up to 130 years offering students of all years an opportunity to get involved in what is always an unforgettable experience. This takes place in the o2 Academy in front of around 1000 fellow medical students! All I can say is... Don’ t Be Shy!
